CONTROL Resonant 1.4.2: Fix a Blocked Quest or Missing Reward

CONTROL Resonant 1.4.2 fixes Zoe, The Gap and missing Artifact rewards. Check NG+ eligibility, update your game and retry the quest on your existing save.

Install CONTROL Resonant 1.4.2 if Zoe has disappeared in The House in Distress, you cannot leave The Gap after The Artist, or Every Dog Has Her Day finished without its Artifact. Released October 8, 2026, the hotfix repairs these specific problems. For an already completed dog quest, retroactive reward recovery applies only to a save that has not entered New Game+. Check that reward before moving your affected save into NG+.

Checked October 10, 2026 against Remedy's official 1.4.2 notes. The checks below are our suggested way to retry the named problems after updating.

Can I recover the Every Dog Has Her Day Artifact?

Yes, if the quest is complete, the reward is missing and that save has not entered NG+. Remedy added a way to grant the reward retroactively. Use your quest record and Artifact inventory together: a completed quest alone does not tell you whether the reward is already present.

Your save's stateWhat to do next
Quest complete, Artifact missing, still on the original runUpdate to 1.4.2, load that save and check the Artifact inventory before starting NG+
Quest still in progressInstall the hotfix before finishing it, then check the reward when the quest completes
Quest complete and reward already presentKeep the Artifact; you do not need a second copy to continue
Affected save has already entered NG+The official retroactive method excludes this save state. Keep any separate original-run save and include the NG+ transition in a support request

If your eligible original-run save still has no reward after loading on 1.4.2, keep it before the NG+ transition and contact Remedy support. Include screenshots of the completed quest and Artifact inventory. The notes establish eligibility, but give no manual claim location or button sequence; an inventory check is a diagnostic step, not a guaranteed claim trigger. See the NG+ preparation guide before accepting the replay prompt.

Stuck in The Gap after The Artist?

Update to 1.4.2 if the lock happened after defeating The Artist, skipping the Ability selection prompt and returning to the main menu. That sequence matches the exit blocker named by Remedy. It is separate from the training-area blocker fixed in 1.4.0.

  1. Finish installing the hotfix and fully close the game.
  2. Relaunch and load the affected save. If an Ability choice is presented, finish it before trying to leave again.
  3. Retry the exit. If it is still blocked, record whether the Ability prompt appears and report the exact sequence to support.

For your next boss clear, make the Artist reward choice before quitting to the main menu. Keep the affected save while you troubleshoot rather than replacing it with a new campaign. The Gap guide covers upgrades and build testing once you can leave normally.

Which quest blockers does 1.4.2 fix?

Match your current symptom to the table, then retry that specific objective after updating. These are suggested checks for the fixes Remedy identifies; they are not a claim that every blocked quest has the same cause.

Problem you seePractical check after installing 1.4.2
Zoe is missing during The House in DistressLoad the affected save and revisit the current quest objective; check whether Zoe and progression return
Busken has no Underhill conversation option after you have advanced the questSpeak to Busken again at that quest stage; use the Underhill quest checks to match the dialogue to your objective
The Firebreaker you must protect stands stillRetry the protection objective and check whether the NPC starts doing the required work
Rangers fail to reset their positions during an Escort taskRetry the task from the affected save and watch whether the Rangers reposition
Subtitles appear at the wrong time or localized text is incorrectRetest the affected scene in the same language and capture any remaining mismatch

For a remaining blocker, record the quest name and the current objective text. “Zoe is missing in The House in Distress” is more useful to support than “quests are broken”; mention when the disappearance occurred and whether it survived a full restart.

Wallet Artifact: Burn damage when Power runs out

1.4.2 fixes excessive Burn damage to Dylan when the Wallet Artifact is equipped and Power runs out. If that combination was causing sudden deaths, update before spending Reset Items or rebuilding your entire loadout. The named interaction gives you a focused check: equipped Artifact, Power state and Burn status.

For a comparison, keep your other equipment and gameplay settings unchanged and observe whether the same failure still occurs in a comparable encounter. Record the loadout and game version if you report it. Follow the build troubleshooting guide for other survival problems; this fix alone does not establish how much Burn damage any build should take.

What did Hotfix 1.4.1 fix?

The October 2 hotfix repaired two regressions from 1.4.0: the required Mold interaction in The Park Resonant, and Dash momentum being lost while using Elevate. If you are following an older guide and cannot consume the required Mold, update before searching for a different route to The Collective. For the movement issue, see Traversal Abilities. Remedy's 1.4.1 notes are the source for these two fixes.

New Game++ was introduced by 1.4.0; use the unlimited replay guide for that feature and the updates overview for the patch timeline and Photo Mode plan.

If your save is still blocked

Before opening a ticket, confirm that the update installation has finished and that you have fully relaunched the game. Prepare these details so support can distinguish a persistent issue from an older build:

  • Platform, storefront and the exact installed version shown by your game or platform.
  • Quest name, objective text and whether the save is in the original run or NG+.
  • What you did immediately before the problem, including menu exits or Ability choices.
  • A screenshot or short clip of the blocker; for a missing reward, include the completed quest and inventory.

Open the chat bubble in the CONTROL Resonant Help Center and choose the relevant bug-report category. Keep your save while the issue is investigated. These reporting details follow the support instructions accompanying the official hotfix notes.
