CONTROL Resonant Update 1.4.0: What Changes in Your Save
October 1 patch guide: unlimited NG++, Unknown Zone changes, Rush, Astral Rebuke, boss fixes, quest blockers, seven save slots and PC graphics improvements.
On this page+
Game Update 1.4.0 was released on October 1, 2026. Platform builds are PS5 01.400.000, Xbox Series X|S 1.4.0.0 and PC 1.4.0. This page summarizes changes relevant to guides, checked October 2, 2026 against Remedy's official notes.
Looking for a fix to a problem that appeared after this update? Hotfix 1.4.2, released October 8, addresses missing Zoe, the post-Artist Gap exit, a missing dog-quest Artifact and other specific regressions. Its guide also covers the October 2 Mold and movement fixes from 1.4.1. Keep this page for the features introduced by 1.4.0.
Replay, materials and loadouts
New Game++ removes the one-replay limit, so accumulated progression can continue across unlimited runs. The main menu now has seven save slots, up from five; Remedy says original and NG+ saves are held in separate save folders accessible through Load Game.
Build Power appears at the bottom left of Loadout. Check it before blaming a weak setup on ability choice: Remedy warns that fighting enemies above your level makes combat harder. A HUD icon signals purchases or upgrades available in The Gap. Pin a needed upgrade material, then inspect the map's Vendor icon to see whether it is stocked.
Unknown Zone and abilities
Unknown Zone has roughly 10%–15% less combat and intensity, with better signposting toward the Oldest House rooftop. The percentage describes the overall adjustment; it is not a measured reduction in every enemy's health or every encounter's headcount. Follow the current route cues instead of expecting all fights from an older walkthrough.
- Rush: a new tutorial explains that it removes status effects. This clarifies existing behavior; the notes do not describe a newly added cleanse.
- Astral Rebuke: its lifetime is slightly longer. Some secondary coverage calls this Sunder, but the official notes name Astral Rebuke; they do not establish a rename or equivalence.
- Push: miniboss and heavy-enemy reactions have been adjusted, with fixes to reactions inside Gravity Anomalies. The notes give no new knockback distance or universal immunity rule.
Boss fixes in 1.4.0
| Encounter | Change relevant to a guide |
|---|---|
| Artist Resonant | Special-attack VFX frame drops fixed |
| Deserter Resonant | Boss music restored after backtracking on the approach; an execution-related out-of-bounds issue there fixed |
| Collective Resonant | Tentacles no longer remain alive after a One-Hit Kills Assist Mode victory |
| Co-Director Resonant | Fixed most attacks failing to trigger Perfect Dodge; this does not mean every attack is guaranteed to trigger it |
| Hedron | First-phase arena size adjusted; premature “Repeating, Refracting” trophy/achievement timing fixed |
The notes do not publish new arena dimensions, dodge timings or replacement boss rotations. These fixes update old bug warnings without establishing new attack strategies.
Quest blockers fixed in 1.4.0
These are Fixed in 1.4.0 according to Remedy. If a named symptom persists on the released build, record it as a post-update report rather than assuming an old workaround is required.
| Quest or location | Fixed symptom |
|---|---|
| Into the Sinkhole | Rare NG+ final miniboss not spawning; enemies getting stuck or falling out of Gravity Anomalies during the miniboss encounter |
| Carbon Copy | Zoe's call failing to start Part 2; Hannah's voice carrying across the Zone |
| New Growth / Underhill | “Find the Test Subjects” staying incomplete after eliminating them without interacting with the Mold guide |
| Recursions and Iterations | Ayad showing a nonfunctional interaction after reloading |
| A New Directive | Start/progression failing when a polaroid camera catches Dylan during Fra's call |
| The Complete Set | Final Subwoofer interaction prompt delayed for two minutes |
| The Last Taxi | Quest granting no rewards |
| Panopticon Service Request | Radio cell opening early, allowing pickup to skip quest steps |
| Underpass Fault | Missing path lighting preventing progress |
Install the update before retrying a blocked save. The notes do not specify a universal recovery sequence for saves already affected. If the blocker remains, contact Remedy support with the installed version and quest steps.
PC, Assist Mode and capture settings
PC optimizations focus on the minimum and recommended specification tiers. The patch also fixes RT-mode switching crashes, oversaturated AgX HDR highlights and HDR-visible pixelation; crash fixes apply across platforms. DLSS Frame Generation can now be combined with V-Sync. Motion-blur shutter speed also accounts for the DLSS/FSR frame-generation multiplier. These notes do not supply new FPS benchmarks or lower hardware requirements.
Remedy again recommends checking AMD's optional Adrenalin 26.9.2 driver. Update the game and a compatible driver separately, then retest; see PC requirements and troubleshooting.
Assist Mode gains Power Core Charge Duration: 100%–300%. Audio options gain a separate radio-dialogue volume slider and Mute copyrighted music, which disables Apocalyptica's “Upperhand” in the intro credits.
Sources and verification
Verified October 2, 2026 using Remedy's October 1 Game Update 1.4.0 notes. The Sunder naming discrepancy appears in RPG Site's coverage; this wiki follows the official ability name. For features still planned, see the post-launch roadmap.
