CONTROL Resonant requires 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, 16 GB RAM, 120 GB of available SSD storage, and at least an Intel Core i5-8500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500 with a GTX 1070, RX 5600 XT, or Intel Arc A580. Steam recommends an Intel Core i7-10700 or Ryzen 7 3700X with an RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT, or Intel Arc B580. It has not attached resolution, frame-rate, graphics-preset, upscaling, or ray-tracing targets to these tiers.

These are the official published requirements, not estimates copied from a placeholder page. They screen hardware, but do not predict how a borderline PC will perform. Use a benchmark that names its game version, driver, GPU, settings, and test scene before drawing a frame-rate or ultrawide conclusion.

Steam does not define what “minimum” and “recommended” produce. Without a target such as 1080p Low at 30 fps or 1440p High at 60 fps, the two columns are hardware baselines rather than performance promises. The listing may still be revised in a later update.

Update 1.4.0: PC fixes and troubleshooting

PC version 1.4.0 was released October 1, 2026. Remedy's notes, checked October 2, confirm optimizations targeting minimum and recommended PCs, crashes when switching RT modes, oversaturated AgX HDR highlights, and HDR-visible artifacts/pixelation. Crash fixes also apply across platforms. These changes do not provide new FPS benchmarks or lower the published requirements.

DLSS Frame Generation now supports V-Sync at the same time. Motion-blur shutter speed also accounts for the DLSS/FSR frame-generation multiplier. Retest frame pacing and image quality with your chosen settings; this does not guarantee a fixed FPS gain.

For Radeon problems, Remedy again recommends AMD's optional Adrenalin 26.9.2 driver. Check GPU compatibility and laptop-manufacturer guidance. Install the game update and compatible driver separately, then compare the same area and settings. The driver does not update the game.

The 1.3.3 known-issues thread recommended restarting after an FPS drop caused by changing Ray Tracing quality. Keep that as a fallback if the symptom persists; the new notes explicitly fix an RT-mode-switching crash, without declaring every RT-related FPS issue resolved. For persistent crashes, record game version, GPU, driver and reproduction steps for Remedy support. See the full patch guide.

Path tracing and DLSS 4.5: which setting should you try?

NVIDIA's September 29 release-build guide confirms Path Tracing, DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation in the shipped PC game. On a GeForce RTX GPU, selecting Ray Tracing Preset: Ultra enables Path Tracing and automatically activates Ray Reconstruction. Up to 6X Multi Frame Generation is an RTX 50-series option; it is not a promise that every RTX card offers 6X or that every PC will reach NVIDIA's example frame rates.

For a practical starting point, test the same demanding scene with Frame Generation off, then enable upscaling if you need more rendering headroom. Add Frame Generation only after checking image quality and responsiveness for yourself. If changing the Ray Tracing preset causes a sudden large FPS loss, restart the game before judging the new setting; Remedy lists that specific workaround. The Steam minimum and recommended GPU tiers still have no official FPS or Ray Tracing target, so this feature list does not make Ultra a recommended setting for those cards.

What review-build PC tests show

The official NVIDIA guide now establishes release-build feature availability. The older measurements below remain individual review-build observations, useful for choosing settings but not for predicting your result on a newer driver or game patch. Remedy identifies Northlight as the engine.

Test contextObservationHow to use it
Wccftech preliminary PC testingPath tracing worked; Frame Generation showed uneven frame pacing and some traversal stutterRetest on your installed game and driver before assuming the review-build behavior persists
WorthPlaying: RTX 5090, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32 GB RAMNative 4K, Ultra, full ray tracing and highest ray reconstruction ran around 30 fps in that reviewer's testEven top-end hardware may need upscaling for heavy path-traced settings
Same WorthPlaying system4K output from a 1440p internal resolution reached roughly 60 fps with occasional drops, especially around The GapStart with upscaling before adding Frame Generation and test Gap transitions separately
WorthPlaying: LCD Steam DeckHandheld preset, no ray tracing, TSR at roughly 540p produced about 19–25 fps and around 90 minutes of battery lifeIt launches, but the reported performance is below a stable 30 fps target

These are single-outlet review-build samples, not a controlled GPU hierarchy. Driver version, exact scene, game patch, cooling, and background load can all change the result. They are most useful for choosing a conservative starting point: disable path tracing first on lower-end hardware, then lower output resolution or enable upscaling before relying on Frame Generation.

Minimum CPU explained

The named minimum processors are Intel's Core i5-8500 and AMD's Ryzen 5 3500. They are desktop reference points; laptop processors with similar names can still have different sustained power limits.

Meeting the CPU line does not compensate for missing GPU memory or RAM. CONTROL Resonant includes large zones, physics-heavy abilities, and close combat involving multiple enemies, all of which can stress different parts of a system. Actual CPU scaling needs a controlled release benchmark.

Minimum GPU

The minimum graphics cards are the GTX 1070, RX 5600 XT, and Intel Arc A580. Steam does not state one shared VRAM minimum, so compare the exact listed GPU rather than treating the memory on one card as a universal threshold. These cards do not have identical features or performance in every workload; they are Remedy's supported floor rather than a perfect equivalence.

Steam does not say whether the minimum tier uses upscaling, dynamic resolution, or a specific texture preset. The GTX 1070 also lacks modern RTX hardware, which suggests ray tracing cannot be mandatory for basic operation, but that is an inference rather than a published setting rule. NVIDIA has confirmed the RTX-specific graphics options above; Steam still has not assigned a graphics target to its minimum tier.

The recommended processors are Intel's Core i7-10700 and AMD's Ryzen 7 3700X. The recommended GPUs are NVIDIA's RTX 3060 Ti, AMD's RX 6700 XT, and Intel's Arc B580. This tier is a meaningful step up from minimum, especially in GPU throughput and processor threads.

Again, Steam does not attach an output target. “Recommended” might mean a higher preset, higher resolution, higher frame rate, or simply the configuration used for general quality assurance. Do not advertise 4K or 60 fps from the model names alone.

RAM and background applications

Both tiers require 16 GB of system memory. A PC with exactly 16 GB should close memory-heavy browser tabs, capture software, and other unnecessary applications before play, particularly when the operating system and launchers are also active. Capacity is only one factor; correct dual-channel configuration and stable memory settings can affect performance.

Steam does not list 32 GB as recommended. That means extra capacity should be treated as headroom rather than a formal requirement. Benchmarks will determine whether demanding settings or long sessions benefit measurably from more memory.

Storage and SSD status

Steam requires 120 GB of available SSD space for both tiers. That is an allocation requirement, not a confirmed download size, because compressed downloads and installed files can differ. Patches and unpacking may temporarily require additional free space.

An SSD is an official requirement, not just a performance recommendation. Leave additional free capacity above 120 GB if practical so the client has room to install and patch.

Operating system and Linux

The supported PC operating systems listed are 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. Windows 7, Windows 8, 32-bit Windows, and native Linux support are not listed. Steam now labels Steam Deck compatibility Unsupported, rather than Verified or Playable.

Proton may eventually run the Windows version on Linux, but compatibility needs testing on an identified current build and can change with drivers, anti-cheat, codecs, or patches. CONTROL Resonant is single-player, which removes one common compatibility obstacle, but it does not prove Linux support. Any future test will identify the Proton version and game build.

Can a laptop run CONTROL Resonant?

A laptop can potentially run the game if its sustained CPU, discrete GPU, VRAM, memory, storage, and cooling are comparable to the listed desktop targets. Mobile GPUs sharing a desktop model family are often configured at different power levels, and integrated graphics should not be assumed equivalent to a GTX 1070 or RX 5600 XT. Model name alone is not enough.

Check the exact GPU in Task Manager or the manufacturer's specifications, then confirm dedicated VRAM. Play while connected to power, use the performance profile, and update the official graphics driver. Wait for benchmarks from the same laptop GPU wattage if your system is close to minimum.

Steam Deck and Windows handhelds

Steam shows Steam Deck compatibility: Unsupported as of September 26. One review build ran on an LCD Deck using a dedicated handheld preset, but the reported 19–25 fps, low internal resolution, and noisy effects do not override Valve's current rating or establish a stable 30 fps experience. "Unsupported" is a store compatibility label; the individual review observation only shows that its test build started.

Windows handhelds also vary widely in processor, memory bandwidth, and power budget. Their integrated GPUs are not directly represented by the desktop cards in the requirements table. Post-launch tests should disclose device, TDP, resolution, upscaler, preset, and patch version to be useful.

How to check your PC

On Windows, open Task Manager and use the Performance tab to identify the CPU, installed memory, GPU, and dedicated GPU memory. Open Settings → System → Storage to confirm available drive space, and run winver if you need the Windows version. Compare every component rather than only the graphics card.

If the GPU is below minimum, cloud play through GeForce NOW may be an option when the supported store entitlement is confirmed. If the PC meets minimum but not recommended, begin with conservative presets and measure performance in a demanding zone. The platform guide explains console, Mac, and cloud alternatives.

What remains unknown?

Official targets for the minimum and recommended tiers, DirectX version, HDR, ultrawide support, shader compilation behavior, and comparable performance across game patches remain unspecified. NVIDIA has confirmed its RTX feature set, but Steam does not say which settings its listed minimum or recommended GPUs should use.

Additional public-build benchmarks should record hardware, driver, settings, scene, and version so results can be compared. The Steam table remains the official requirements source; use the released 1.4.0 notes for current fixes and treat launch workarounds as version-specific.

Sources and verification

The requirement table was checked against the official Steam listing on September 22, 2026. Remedy's official PlayStation Blog feature identifies Northlight. Path tracing, Frame Generation, and stutter observations come from Wccftech's preliminary PC test; the settings-specific RTX 5090 and Steam Deck results come from WorthPlaying. Official specifications and attributed review-build measurements remain separate.

October 2, 2026 update: Remedy's released 1.4.0 notes confirm the PC fixes and DLSS FG/V-Sync change. AMD's driver notes supply compatibility guidance; NVIDIA's September 29 feature guide supplies shipped RTX features. Earlier review-build benchmarks above have not been remeasured on 1.4.0.

Steam Deck status was also rechecked on the live Steam listing on September 26; it is currently marked Unsupported, replacing the earlier Unknown status.
