The Physicist: Underpass Rewards and Astralized
Find The Physicist in the Underpass and compare Spike with Astral Rebuke, including their Astralized status effect.
On this page+
The Physicist is the Resonant reported in the Underpass. The September 23 Epic Games Store guide lists Spike and Astral Rebuke as its Combat Ability rewards. It places access later in the campaign but gives no mission name or exact entrance. This profile helps with the choice after the encounter; it does not invent a strategy for the boss itself.
| Choice | Reported effect | A reason to test it |
|---|---|---|
| Spike | Creates an Astral Spike that repeatedly attacks nearby enemies and can knock them down | You want ongoing pressure while Dylan attacks another target or repositions |
| Astral Rebuke | Bursts up beneath enemies and launches them into the air | You want to start an aerial combo yourself |
What does Astralized do?
Both rewards apply Astralized, which the guide says accelerates the buildup of Burn and Infected. That makes either reward a plausible setup tool for a status-focused loadout. The link to The Collective's Mold powers is concrete: they apply Infected, and Infected can explode when the same target is burning. What remains unmeasured is the buildup multiplier, duration, stack rules and whether bosses resist either status. Treat an Astralized → Mold → fire sequence as something to test in The Gap, not a guaranteed boss-killing rotation.
Spike or Astral Rebuke?
Spike is the hands-off option: the summoned attack can keep another enemy occupied and may create a knockdown. Astral Rebuke asks you to capitalize on a launch with aerial attacks, so it suits players comfortable with that follow-up. The Epic author recommends Spike together with Growth's Mold allies, a coherent multi-summon idea. No source supplies a controlled comparison of their costs or damage, and no source proves that every enemy can be launched or knocked down.
What about the fight route?
The Underpass is the only location supplied for The Physicist. The source does not document the boss's attacks, arena hazards, phases or prerequisites. For other reported ability sources, use the Resonants table. For movement gates rather than boss rewards, use Traversal Abilities.
Update 1.4.0
Astral Rebuke lifetime is slightly longer in 1.4.0. No new duration in seconds is given. The official notes name Astral Rebuke; they do not establish that Sunder is its replacement name. Separately, the Underpass Fault progression blocker caused by missing path lighting is fixed.
October 2, 2026 update: Remedy's released 1.4.0 notes confirm these fixes. Full patch guide.
Sources and verification
Checked September 24, 2026 against Jason Rodriguez's Epic Games Store abilities guide for location, choices and Astralized effects. Remedy's combat explanation establishes how melee funds abilities, and its New Game Plus article explains later alternate rewards. Specific tactics and numbers await release-build testing.
