CONTROL Resonant Resonants Guide
Learn what CONTROL Resonant Resonants are, how boss ability rewards shape builds, what changes in New Game Plus, and which preview details remain provisional.
On this page+
Resonants are CONTROL Resonant's major supernatural bosses, and defeating them gives Dylan a choice of Combat Abilities rather than only a fixed loot drop. Players cannot collect every option in the first playthrough, but New Game Plus lets them fight a boss again for a different associated ability. Remedy also warns that returning bosses may behave differently.
Only one encounter has been discussed with a tentative preview name, “Dancer,” and that label is not yet treated here as final. Remedy has not released an official all-Resonants roster. This page adds value by explaining the verified reward structure and the evidence boundary instead of multiplying uncertain names.
What makes an enemy a Resonant?
Official material presents Resonants as formidable entities and major bosses whose defeat expands Dylan's supernatural toolkit. The link to Combat Abilities distinguishes them from ordinary encounters and likely makes them structural milestones in progression. Their exact lore category is still deliberately underexplained.
It is unsafe to classify every large creature in a trailer as a Resonant. Editing can combine separate scenes, and size alone does not establish reward behavior or narrative status. Final journal entries, objective text, and reward screens will provide the reliable classification.
How ability rewards work
Defeating a Resonant can lead to a choice between different Combat Abilities. Remedy's New Game Plus explanation confirms that players can later return to acquire a different ability from the same boss. This establishes both choice and replay value even though the full reward menus are not public.
The selected ability joins a loop in which Aberrant melee hits restore resource, abilities help stun enemies, and executions temporarily boost melee damage. A reward's practical value therefore depends on its resource cost and how it creates or exploits openings. Damage in isolation is not enough to rank it.
Why one run cannot unlock everything
CONTROL Resonant limits access to some abilities and Talent nodes during the initial playthrough. The restriction makes two first-run builds meaningfully different and prevents every reward screen from becoming an automatic collection step. It also gives New Game Plus a progression purpose.
This design reduces the usefulness of pre-release completion checklists. A missing ability may reflect a deliberate choice rather than an overlooked boss. Launch pages will distinguish mutually exclusive first-run rewards from permanently missable content after transfer behavior is tested.
Choosing a first reward
Start with the problem the current build cannot solve. A short-range form pairing may need safe approach or ranged control, while a slower setup may need faster stun access or crowd interruption. The right reward should complete the loop that Dylan uses most often.
Also consider Artifact conditions and Talent investment. An ability that consistently triggers the equipped passives can outperform one with a larger isolated effect, and a power that supports executions may increase later melee damage. Save before the reward when the game permits it, but do not assume respec or reload behavior until verified.
The provisional “Dancer” encounter
Xbox Wire's hands-on preview refers to a Resonant tentatively called the Dancer. The word “tentatively” matters: it signals that the name came from a preview context and may not be the final in-game label. The encounter is valid evidence that previewers fought a Resonant, not proof of a permanent guide slug.
We will not invent phases, weaknesses, or rewards from the nickname. Edited footage and a writer's short description cannot establish a full strategy. If the release build keeps the name, a dedicated page will be created after repeated testing.
Combat preparation principles
Equip a primary Aberrant form that can make reliable contact and a secondary form that covers its weakness. Choose a combo ender appropriate to the arena, then select Artifacts whose conditions can be maintained against a major target. Reserve ability resource for a deliberate control or stun opportunity instead of spending it without a follow-up.
Executions grant a temporary melee-damage benefit, but not every boss may expose identical execution states. If additional enemies enter the arena, they may become resources for generating the buff before attacking the boss. This is a system-based preparation principle, not a claim about a specific unreleased phase.
Resonants in New Game Plus
New Game Plus carries Dylan's combat progression while resetting traversal abilities. Players return with Aberrant upgrades, health and resource improvements, Combat Abilities, Talents, and Artifacts, then gain access to further Talent nodes and a fourth Artifact slot. This creates a larger decision space for boss rematches.
Remedy says the player can select a different ability from the same boss and that boss behavior may change. A complete NG+ guide must therefore track both reward differences and mechanical changes. Higher statistics alone will not explain the replay encounter.
How boss rewards connect to builds
Combat Abilities are one of four central build layers alongside Aberrant forms, Talents, and Artifacts. The boss reward can supply control or utility that the weapon forms do not provide, while Talents and passives amplify the chosen interaction. The system encourages coherent packages instead of a single linear equipment ladder.
Our CONTROL Resonant builds guide uses a goal-first method: choose the encounter problem, then match form, ability, Talent, and Artifact. That approach can accommodate new rewards without rewriting every recommendation. Numerical builds will follow only when final values and difficulty conditions are known.
What the complete guide will record
After launch, the roster will record the official name, zone, mandatory or optional status, recommended preparation, telegraphed attacks, phase transitions, safe responses, and all verified reward choices. New Game Plus changes will have a separate subsection. Spoiler-sensitive names and outcomes will be introduced only after a direct solution.
Each strategy will cite the game version and testing conditions. If a patch changes an attack or reward, the older behavior will not be presented as current. This is more useful to players than publishing a fast but unverifiable “all bosses” page before anyone can complete the game.
Known unknowns before release
The final roster, encounter sequence, optional bosses, health and stun rules, weaknesses, phase counts, reward names, and alternative ability totals are unannounced. The relationship between Resonants, the new resonance, Hiss, Mold, and other forces is also part of the unreleased story. Those are questions for the game, not blanks to fill with fan theory in a guide.
For now, the reliable answer is concise: Resonants are major bosses, their rewards shape builds, one run cannot take every choice, and New Game Plus supports alternate rewards and changed behavior. Everything more specific needs final evidence. Check back after September 24 for tested encounter pages.
Sources and verification
This page was last verified on September 1, 2026 using Remedy's official PlayStation Blog features on buildcrafting and New Game Plus, plus Xbox Wire's hands-on preview for the provisional “Dancer” label. The source type is disclosed wherever it changes confidence. No competitor boss list or trailer-derived strategy was reused.
